  • Morning temporary post.

Tried making this post earlier today, but ran into issues connecting with the server. Couldn’t load the website, When things finally did load, I tried making a post, post draft wouldn’t autosave, image wouldn’t upload…

There wasn’t even a draft post waiting for me when I came back.

    Anyway, here’s the image.

I want to make a theme/template that lets me put an image in a post, turn it into a highlighted image, and not show it as a highlighted image in the post preview and at the top of the post and an image in the post (like the current template), but rather only when the post preview is seen.

  • Temp 3

Blah, blah, blah. More text. This is a temporary post.

  • More temporary posting

I bought a new (to me) camera lens. The stuff that came with the camera package I ordered, back when I got my Canon 90D, included a couple of kit lenses and a cheap manual supertelephoto. My first good lens was a cheap 50mm f1.8 prime lens. Then a decent 150-600mm supertelephoto. And then a used high-quality 24-70mm f 2.8 zoom. Then my mother bought me the 18-200mm lens I expected to be too expensive for a present. Then someone had some free camera stuff that included a slightly damaged, but still working, 18-135mm lens. And one of my kit lenses goes down to 15mm, but I don’t care for the quality.

My new lens is a 10-20mm f3.5 zoom.

I’m excited for it to arrive.

  • Temporary post

I’m working on site design, which means I need a bunch of posts to exist so that I can see how they look in the different layouts. I’ll be making a bunch of temporary posts, tagging them in different ways, etc.

    Anyway. That’s the post.

  • Oof.

Okay. Have done a lot of searching and skimming articles and posts. Learned many more words and phrases that I need to search and skim about. Looking into ActivityPub, so I can be on the Fediverse. Reviewed the difference between themes and templates, and discovered that the theme I want to use doesn’t work with WordPress’s site editor (different from the post and theme editors). Rediscovered that child themes are a thing, and that I should probably be working with one of those. And trying to determine if I need custom post types, should keep multisite WordPress installation, and whether I should use a MediaWiki or WordPress for my photography gallery/archive.

Thankfully, there’s no real timeframe for this, aside from however long I can maintain focus and whether I can turn down the amount of focus to a more sustainable level. For now, it’s all about scribbling down notes and designing a solid foundation that I can come back to and build upon.

  • I’m back!

Finally got the initiative to start working on the website again. I’ve resolved the file size upload issue that was preventing me from posting my photography, did some doodling and brainstorming for a couple of days to figure out how to divide my site up, installed a wordpress template and discovered it wouldn’t work for one of my projects, installed a second template specifically for that project, installed a plugin that let me alter the fonts so that the two blogs would still look similar, installed a wiki for a third project, and did a lot of puttering around and troubleshooting.

Unfortunately, I can’t just put in an hour a day or something. With the way my mind works, I have to put together the entire framework, all at once. My working memory can’t hold a lot at a time, so I need to flip between tabs and search things a dozen times and troubleshoot everything I possibly can, all in one extended session (which could cover multiple days in a row of being the main focus during that time). Once I move on to another main focus, I’ll lose a lot of the more specific knowledge about how I did things, only caring about how to make posts on the site.

The main purpose of this website is to post my free-to-use high-resolution photography in it’s own searchable archive, the Gallery / the Doing it for the Exposure wiki. But to do that, my choices are narrowed down to either a photography wordpress site, which seems daunting (especially since I have specific ideas about how it should look and operate, but a novice’s notions of how to make it happen), or put together a mediawiki site (which is also daunting, but very utilitarian and should allow for full-size downloads by anyone visiting the site, and is currently the likely winner).

But I do other things, too.

I have a lot of old poetry. A small amount of it is rather good, I think. And there are various things I’ve written over the years that I can copy and paste from elsewhere on the internet, maybe even edit and expand upon. My writings, whenever I manage to curate them or write more, will go into their own blog, the Notebook / Xer’s Notebook.

The Corkboard is where I’ll be posting images that are a little more meme-like. Quotes from various people, including me, as typographic art and/or words over photos. That sort of thing. Maybe some drawings or sketches (very low skill level). Presented with minimal commentary.

Bookmarks is going to be a page of links to an assortment of things. Maybe social media personalities to follow, favorite podcasts, essays by other people, organizations I think deserve support, all sorts of things. Links and brief explanations of what/why I’m recommending, categorized.
